Public Discussion on Urban Greening Issues Held in Pavlodar Region

During a public discussion on urban greening, organized by the Civil Alliance of Pavlodar Region on August 12 as part of the activities of the “Adal Azamat – Belsendi Qogam” Regional Project Office, participants discussed proposals to improve the organization of urban greening activities.

Why is urban greening so important? Green spaces are a key stabilizing element of the urban environment. Trees remove harmful gases and dust from the air, help prevent urban flooding by absorbing rainfall and gradually releasing moisture, and improve the microclimate by increasing air humidity and reducing the overheating of road surfaces and building walls. All of this is particularly important in the context of climate change, as heavy rainfall and heatwaves are becoming more intense.

Unfortunately, there are currently not many positive changes in the field of urban greening. First and foremost, the existing tender system makes it difficult to organize high-quality work. This summer has been particularly dry, yet instead of watering, residents of Pavlodar see intensive grass cutting in areas where the grass has almost completely dried out and no longer grows. In the middle of summer, trees are being “pruned” and, in many cases, effectively destroyed.
